First time coming to Don Alex and I felt confident in that I would enjoy myself. My sister has been there many times and vouched that it’s delicious. . My step mother ordered the chicken cilantro soup. I didn’t get to taste it but she said it was delicious and it looked tasty! My sister had the chicken saltado which I can say was good. And my Arroz chaufa was good too. No complaints about the food. The waitress was kind as well just need to make sure when something is being dropped off at the table, they should take whatever empty plates/trash etc away. Things got a little piled up at some point. But fine experience. Would eat there again if I was hungry and in the area.
My wife and I dine at Don Alex on a regular basis and in all honesty we’ve yet to have a bad experience. While we usually stick to our go-to: mixed chaufa rice + half a rotisserie chicken + friend sweet plantains (maduros) + a glass of chicha morada, the times we’ve ventured and ordered other items like the lomo saltado and ceviche, have been very good as well. The food is consistently tasty. The service is just ok. They add a 20% tip to your bill without warning so be careful overtipping. The atmosphere in the restaurant is good. Can feel a bit crammed since the premises are tiny. Overall it’s a nice place to get a good and tasty meal.
It's an excellent neighborhood restaurant!
I don't give 5 stars because those are for high-end places. Otherwise, it is a 5 star for a neighborhood restaurant.
The food is excellent, the place is very clean. The atmosphere is great and even though it might be full it is not a noise place.
Try it out, and the puces are unbeatable
We went to the restaurant in Rego park, ordered food and the service was very bad. The service from the waiters was never friendly. I liked the food, but their employees were inattentive, the server and the cashier, not willing to provide service, at all times with laziness. That happened Thursday, November 9
Great portion and good service. I enjoyed the half chicken with rice quite much!
This is a cozy Peruvian restaurant with a couple of locations in Queens. It is not really for groups, as it is cramped inside and the tables and chairs are packed together making it feel even more cramped.
We had several entrees:
1) Jalea - A deep fried seafood platter with fish, shrimp, calamari and fried yucca. Even their small size platter was absolutely massive and was too much food for two people. We could not finish it. This is a very rich dish and is great for seafood lovers.
2) Tallarin Verde - I have had better tasting versions of this Peruvian green spaghetti. It tasted slightly bland and it felt like they went too light on the cheese, spinach and basil. However, it was a generous size.
3) Pollo Empanizado - This piece of breaded fried chicken was excellent. It was super flat and the breading was perfectly crispy. And like everything else we had, the piece of chicken was huge.
Don Alex is a great option for a Peruvian restaurant. I have been to other ones that did have slightly better tasting food, but this place makes up for it with huge portions.
Very delightful spot, I really enjoy coming here. They have very good fresh food. I never had a bad experience here. Very good quick service, never a wait time of more then 5 min. They have seating inside and out, well decorated. Just a very pleasant atmosphere. Personally I like the chicken and beef mix with tomato’s onions and French fries served with a side of rice. Big portion for under 20$ and last but not least the very tasty tres leches cake.
Delicious food, excellent service, truly exquisite Peruvian flavor, the people who work there are kind and cordial. They never rush you & they treat kids with respect! The sangria is delish. Try the fried calamari.. Better than anywhere else in the neighborhood. And the avocado salad is fantastic!
